Beach day gear

Dune & Shade

Dune & Shade is an independent review site covering beach day gear, published by Selena Hann. It treats a beach day as a logistics problem — shade that holds in wind, cold that lasts to sundown, sand that stays behind. It earns commissions on some products it recommends. It is not live yet.

Dune & Shade — Beach day gear

About Dune & Shade

Everything that goes in the car is in scope: canopies and umbrellas, coolers, chairs, carts for soft sand, towels and changing gear, and the clothing a whole family ends up needing for one afternoon. The reader is usually packing for more than themselves, which changes the answer — gear that is perfect for one person is often the wrong call when it has to be carried a quarter mile across sand with a toddler attached.

Beach conditions break the usual review logic because the two things that ruin a day are the two things product pages never address. Wind is the first: most beach umbrellas are rated for conditions gentler than an ordinary afternoon on an open shore, and an anchoring system matters more than the canopy above it. Salt and sand are the second, quietly destroying zippers, hinges and bearings on gear that reviewed well in a backyard. Picks here are judged on how they behave after a season of both, and on whether one person can carry them from the parking lot.

Selena Hann publishes the site, and affiliate commissions pay for it — stated on the page, not hidden in small print. Gear that has been set up on an actual beach is described that way; recommendations resting on materials, anchoring design and multi-season owner reports are labeled as that instead. No manufacturer sees a verdict before it publishes, and no spot in a list is for sale.
